Volunteers Clean Up Blackpool

Some of our staff from Delphi Medical recently joined a voluntary litter pick event, organised by local Blackpool group FY4U. The event was a huge success with over 20 bags of litter collected and several local organisations coming together to strengthen links in the community. Following the success of last weeks’ litter pick, FY4U are now planning to hold a monthly event.

“The litter pick was a huge success. Not only did we manage to clean up the front, we’ve been able to build connections with other organisation in the community. It feels great to give something back to the community that has given me so much. Fingers crossed, the monthly litter pick will gather momentum and attract volunteers from all walks of life” –  FY4U Group volunteer

The litter pick was arranged by FY4U, a local voluntary group made up of people who love Blackpool, love recovery and want to give back to their community. On the day, around 14 volunteers gathered at the lifeboat centre in Blackpool to take part in the litter pick.

We supported with the initial set up of the FY4U group supporting with marketing, resources and premises with the aim of increasing the presence of this and similar voluntary groups within Blackpool.

FY4U hope to give a voice to people using recovery services, their friends and their families in Blackpool. The group is not just for those in recovery but open to anyone who wants to play a part in making Blackpool a better place.

By forging connections with providers and other local services, FY4U are striving to influence recovery and bring these organisations together. With the litter pick and similar voluntary events, FY4U members are provided with purpose and an ideal opportunity to give something back to their communities.

“It was great to get involved with the litter pick event in Blackpool. We managed to get some cracking weather and forge some great connections with services in the area. The FY4U group is an excellent way for those with lived experience of recovery to get out and meet people in their communities. It spreads the word and does some real good at the same time” – Claire Illingworth, Delphi Medical
