Many of the people who make up our team at Horizon have successfully completed treatment with us previously.
Here is the story of one dedicated volunteer who, through her hard work and determination, has managed to find herself paid work within our service:
After successfully completing our Freedom treatment programme, Annie started volunteering with the Horizon reception team at Winstone House, providing support with the telephone, intercoms, and meeting clients and booking their appointments with their support workers.
Over the following months, Annie was successful in gaining paid work as part of our team of bank staff, covering reception and administration at Winstone House for four days a week. She also continues to volunteer as a co-facilitator of Horizon’s Pre-DEAP group one morning per week.
Since starting the role, Annie feels that she has been given a real sense of purpose. As she is working in substance misuse services, she is able to use her personal experiences of addiction to help others in a similar position. This gives her great satisfaction and also helps her with her own recovery. Annie has started to feel much more confident and is ready to begin applying for full-time roles within the sector.
Now she is receiving an income, Annie has been able to move into a new home, and she has been able to provide references from her employer to secure her property. Annie has attended lots of training courses during her time with Horizon. All of these have helped her fulfil her role to the best of her abilities.
Annie’s role is of massive benefit to the recovery community in Blackpool. She provides tremendous support to the staff she works alongside, the families she supports, and the families that seek support due to their loved ones being in addiction.
